Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

 Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

We are excited to announce that electric vehicle (EV) charging stations are now available at our Center Green, Foothills, and Mesa Lab campuses! UCAR charging stations, and associated designated parking spaces, are available on a first come, first served basis for all staff, visitors, and public with plug-in electric vehicles (EVs) in accordance with the following Use Policy and subsequent guidelines.  This is a pilot program and is subject to change.

USE POLICY

  • Parking spaces designated for vehicle charging are STRICTLY for use by plug-in EVs that are actively charging.

  • When an EV has completed charging, the vehicle’s owner shall move the vehicle within 30 minutes. (Tip: Opt in to ChargePoint’s notification feature, which will send you a text or email when your vehicle is fully charged.)

  • Users must replace the charging cords when finished. Cords left on the ground are safety hazards.

  • Charging of electric vehicles is limited to the designated campus charging stations. It is prohibited to use electrical outlets in parking facilities or buildings for the purpose of vehicle charging.

  • Failure to observe these rules shall result in a written courtesy warning for the first offense and, for subsequent offenses, may result in the loss of charging privileges.

ACCESS

  • Locations of the charging stations can be found here.

  • All EV drivers who wish to use the campus charging stations must first complete the registration process. Access to the charging stations will only be available to those who have successfully registered.

  • To register, follow these steps:

COST

  • The cost to charge a vehicle is $0.25 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) for the first four hours of use. After the first four hours, there is an additional cost of $0.10 per minute to remain plugged in.  The fee increases after four hours to encourage customers to move their vehicles so that other people can access the charging stations.

  • Time-based charging fees are assessed while the car is connected to the station. You must unplug and move your vehicle to avoid incurring the additional time-based fees.
