Sustainability

UCAR and NCAR are internationally recognized for expertise across a range of atmospheric, solar and related sciences.   As leaders in research and education on the Earth system and how people interact with it, we have a responsibility to understand our impact on the environment, working toward making that impact as positive as possible.  As such, UCAR holds itself to high standards for energy conservation and sustainability.

Simply put, sustainability means accomplishing our organizational mission in a way that protects the atmosphere, water, and other vital resources we depend on for health and well-being, while intelligently managing operational costs. Done well, our sustainability efforts represent the execution of best management and operations practices in stewardship of the resources entrusted to us.

Sustainability addresses: energy, water, waste reduction and recycling, transportation, sustainable procurement, indoor environmental quality, greenhouse gas emissions, site and land use, and green building and construction.
