Dependent Care Assistance

UCAR provides assistance to those employees with dependent care needs in the following ways:

  1. Dependent Care Spending Account. UCAR has adopted a Section 125 Flexible Spending Account Plan which allows eligible employees with dependent care expenses to pay for these expenses (up to $5,000 per year) on a pre-tax basis. Please review an explanation of the Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account  for further details.
  2. Bright Horizons Care Advantage. Bright Horizons promotes resources and programs relating to dependent care for employees of its members. The priorities of Bright Horizons include:
    • Child Care Discount List - Child care centers throughout your area offer discounts to employees
    • Back-up Care - Each employee receives 100 hours per year of back-up care at a highly subsidized rate.
      • Drop-in Care - vacations, overtime, emergencies, last minute breakdown of care, and before and after school
      • In-Home Care - for sick dependents, more than one child, overtime, emergencies, last minute breakdown of care, and before and after school
    • CareDirect - a national database through Sittercity allows users to search, schedule and negotiate the rate for  additional services you might need outside of the regular back-up care services you currently use.  The Sittercity site offers a full profile of each caregiver including fees, background check results, special needs experience, references, and much more.
